Hater- Mosquito (2026)

I have a true affinity for Norse area bands. Whether it be metal, alternative sounds or indie pop like Hater's "Mosquito". I think that is because of the area's ear for gorgeous melodies. On "Mosquito" those melodies are front and center woven into simple structured songs that slant toward mellow, relaxed shoe gaze. Their songs, based on how they sound, do not give away their sentiments. That's what the lyrics are for obliging you to actually listen. While "Mosquito" has a full, lush sound it could benefit with a couple heavier additions. Still- more than worth the time to give this a try.

Della Mae- Magic Accident (2026)

Bluegrass can be classified as either back porch mountain or Billy Strings-esque psycho jam. Della Mae is a mix of both. It's traditional with picking you know probably extends itself live. Their harmonies are pristine and their songs honest without sickening tropes. The ladies can sure play and they float between sweet and grumbling attitude. It's no wonder it's so hard to see them live because tickets are gone in a mandolin's triplet.

The Lemonheads- Lovey (1990)

Today was Evan Dando's 58th birthday so I decided to listen to an older Lemonheads release "Lovey". "Lovey" has an identity crisis. One part noisy punk, one part, one part jangle pop with a sprinkle of shoe-gaze. Songs about his virtual surroundings and what his leisure time consisted of would become the cornerstones of Dando's creative inspiration. You can hear the direction that they were going which spawned two of arguably the best releases in the 90's; "It's a Shame About Ray" and "Come On Feel the Lemonheads". Lucky for us the jangle won in the end, but it's worth giving this a listen to see the steps to brilliance.

Pony- Clearly Cursed (2026)

Pop has so many directions it can go. It can be sugary, repetitive and formulaic or it can be Pony- power-pop with a crunch, hooks and a sweet, sweet voice. Pony continues to grow as a songwriter, not re-inventing the craft but creating songs that are hummable and stick with you. Earworms. But good earworms. On "Clearly Cursed" you can hear dance, metal and bubblegum but its with integrity. It feels real and it's hard not to play on repeat. Besides this great release check out all her stuff at Bandcamp.com.
