Every year our little circle of music nerds share our favorite releases for the year. In early January I go through these and other year end lists (which are ingratiating) to see if I missed anything or just didn't give something a good, fair chance. So far I fell deeper in love with Say Hi, Muncie Girls and Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats where I went back a scoffed up their catalogues (scroll down this page to learn a little more). I also felt there were 2 others worth noting...

The Interrupters- Fight the Good Fight (2018)

High energy chunky, punky ska with clever, disdainful lyrics and writing assistance from Rancid (Got Each Other) and Billy Joe Armstrong (Broken World) to boot. It's a requirement to move uncontrollable while listening.

Favorite Songs: She's Kerosene, Got Each Other, Gave You Everything, So Wrong

Greenleaf- Hear the Rivers (2018)

Swedish hard rock band that pounds out full throated guitar riffs and melodies. They straddle metal, except for the vocals which plants them far enough from the screech of metal and they toss in a pinch of blues making them more classic. Not suggested for a dinner party.

Favorite Songs: Let It Out, Sweet Is the Sound, Good Ol' Goat, The Caverns Below

boygenius- boygenius (2018)

When three accomplished songwriters/singers get together (Julie Baker, Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridges) and blend their emotive, introspective, heartfelt (or wrenching) styles you get the beautiful EP "boygenius". The harmonies, wistful melodies and simple instrumentation create a perfect pitying or empowering mood- depending how you listen.

Favorite Songs: Bite the Hand, Souvenir, Stay Down
