16. Dwight Yoakam- Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars

Posted by KB on 12/16/2016 to Reviews In Brief
After a bazillion years of releasing excellent, true and criminally underplayed country, Dwight proves that he can whip up a mighty good bluegrass album too. Doesn't sound like a novelty one off (though it may be) as his performances sound absolutely authentic. He even covers..... himself on Guitars, Cadillacs.

Favorite Songs:What I Don't Know, Guitars, Cadillacs, Gone (That'll Be Me)

17. Summer Cannibals- Full of It

Posted by KB on 12/15/2016 to Reviews In Brief
The Cannibals are raw and full of riot girrrrrl punk with hooks capable of landing a whale. Besides being in your face the ladies (sometimes with token guy) have chops and they are tight. You can hear Joan Jett, Sleater Kinney and Kim Deal Pixies. Oh, and they do have a sense a humor.

Favorite Songs: Say My Name, Talk Over Me, Make Up

18. D Generation- Nothing is Anywhere

Posted by KB on 12/14/2016 to Reviews In Brief
The D Generation boys got back together after 16 years and put together a solid, straightforward, no holds barred rock album- with a bit of aged punk wisdom, vision and aplomb. Malin sounds great and band grooves along at a proper neck bobbing pace. Like no frills rock- this is your album.

Favorite Songs: Piece of the Action, Not Goin' Back, Tomorrow

19. Atmosphere- Fishing Blues

Sure there are "cooler", big-ballin' rappers out there with their big egos and opinions. Sure there are more inventive rappers on the scene pushing boundaries. But sometimes it's just refreshing to hear a rapper cadence about day to day life and being a regular guy. Word.

Favorite Songs: Ringo, No Biggie, Won't Look Back, Still Be Here

20. John Doe- The Westerner

Posted by KB on 12/12/2016 to Reviews In Brief
Let's start YBLOG with our (my) Top 20 of 2016. I toyed with importing reviews from the past, but hell, let's start fresh....

John Doe "The Westerner" took me by surprise. I always check out his releases and they always deserve respect, but Westerner showed the ex X still has lots to offer. It's introspective, smart and rocks and chugs along. Good ensemble backing him.

Favorite Songs: Get On Board, Go Baby Go, Drink of Water

Howdy and welcome to YBLOG, YKEEP's blog (yawn..we know blase). We're pretty opinionated about music and arrogant enough to feel that you all should know what we are thinking. At our blog (still makes me yawn) we'll be posting reviews (original, I know) of new and old releases, opinions/thoughts/rants of our choosing and some shout outs for anything we feel is noteworthy. We promise not to wear you out with looooong prose. We prefer to the point notions. Anywho, hopefully you'll get a kick out of it. Enjoy!
